Current FMCSA Random testing requirements state that employers must test 50% of drivers for drugs and 10% for alcohol each calendar year.
If your drivers participate in a consortium pool for random selections, the group must meet the minimum testing requirements for both drugs and alcohol. You can stay compliant by sending your employees for testing whenever you receive a random selection.
If your drivers belong to a company pool, you must test at least 8 drivers for drugs to meet the 50% threshold. Additionally, you need to test 2 drivers for alcohol to satisfy the 10% requirement.
