What is ethanol?

Ethanol is commonly called ethyl alcohol or drinking alcohol. It is the principal type of alcohol which is found in alcoholic beverages sold over the counter. If the beverage uses fermentation of sugars by yeasts, alcohol can be the major component of that drink. A Urine or Hair Test can identify the amount of ethanol consumed by an individual.

What is Ethyl Glucuronide?

When ethanol is consumed, the human body forms a metabolite called Ethyl Glucuronide (EgG), which is detectable in urine or hair. The presence of EtG (metabolite) indicates that alcohol was ingested and metabolized. EtG can be detected in urine up to 80 hours after use, and up to 90 days in hair.

Types of EtG Test

There are two common ways to detect the presence of EtG, hair follicle test and a urine test. The basic difference between the two methods is the look-back period or the detection window. Here is how you can understand it:

The DNA laboratory extracts the genetic profiles of the alleged siblings and creates a siblingship index.

If the siblingship index is less than 1.00, this indicates non-relatedness. If the siblingship index is greater than 1.00, then the two tested individuals are more likely to be biological siblings. The higher the value of the siblingship index, the greater the likelihood that the two individuals are biological siblings.
