One of our regular drug testing clients sent us a donor recently who failed his urine test for cocaine.

That’s not the unusual part.

The donor showed up in our office the same day the employer received the drug test result. He was adamant that he does NOT use drugs and there must be some kind of mix up at the lab.

It was a random drug test, and he was worried about losing his job. In fact, he DID lose his job and was blaming us.

He asked to pay for his own drug test so he could prove to his employer that “it was all a big mistake.” We told him we are happy to take his money, but it’s been a week since the original test, and cocaine is detectable in urine for only a few days. If he’s been clean since then, it’s likely to be negative.

Of course he took the test anyway. And he passed. And he took it to the employer, who in turn called us to ask for advice.

We help our clients with issues like this all the time. It’s one of the benefits of working with a company like InOut Labs.

Here is what we advised and what happened.

Since the employer really wanted to give this guy another chance, we suggested a hair drug test. A hair drug test will detect drug use up to 90 days in the past.

The deal they made with the guy is that if he passes, they will hire him back.

He didn’t pass.

In addition to cocaine, he also failed for marijuana.

And I imagine he still insists he does not use drugs, and probably believes it.

Substance abusers lie. And they are very, very good at it.

The only way to know for sure is to drug test and drug test frequently.

Remember this was a random test. He passed a pre-employment test when he was hired. It’s easier to prepare for those. The random drug test is what revealed who this guy really is; a substance abuser– AND a liar.
