The folks at Penn State learned the hard way that ignoring a known or suspected problem won’t make it go away. In fact, if you ignore a known problem, by default, you condone it.
Would you save a drowning person if he/she were within arm’s length? Or would you turn away thinking, “It’s none of my business”? Sometimes we are thrust into situations where it ends up being “our business,” whether we like it or not.
Do you have alcohol and drug abusers in your workplace? If you do, or think you might, and you ignore it, you have now condoned drug abuse. You then share the responsibility for the absenteeism, accidents and lost productivity that come with it.
We all make choices.
